With its unique tropical island climate and growing number of inbound tourists, as well as the continuous improvement of medical and healthcare facilities, Hainan province has been making medical tourism a new business calling card.
Over 4 million tourists from home and abroad travelled to Hainan province during the seven-day National Day holiday, contributing 7.7 billion yuan ($1.1 billion) to the local economy, a year-on-year increase of 11.5 percent.
Located at the southernmost part of China, Hainan is the only tropical province and the largest Special Economic Zone. With beautiful scenery and duty free shopping malls, it is also an ideal paradise for visitors.
President Xi Jinping himself has spoken of the importance of green development on the island, saying that protecting Hainan's environment should be central to its wider development and that it should be guided by the idea that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets."
The development of tourism on the island reflects the broader development of the industry across China, where 70 years since the state's foundation.
An exhibition showcasing China's development since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 opened at the Beijing Exhibition Center on Sept 23. Exhibits focusing on Hainan have attracted a lot of attention.
A gala night featuring a variety of songs, dances, and other performances was held in Haikou, Hainan to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
