​Baoting man makes rural fashion a viral hit

A man from Baoting Li and Miao autonomous county in Hainan has recently caused a sensation on the internet with his special fashion show that features rural elements and local Li brocades. 

Long Long, in his most popular videos posted on video-sharing app Douyin, dressed in a delicately-designed "garment" made mainly of commonly seen plants and farm tools. He also decorated his distinct clothing with Baoting's distinctive Li brocade. To date, over 10 million people have liked his videos and he has shot to fame online with over 2 million followers.

The 29-year-old, who once majored in economics in university, said that he likes fashion and hopes to make a living in it.

"I returned to my hometown in 2018 after three years of work in the fashion industry in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, and I hope to use short videos to present a special rural fashion based on my knowledge, the rural elements, creative ideas, and video-making techniques," Long said.  

"Many people believe that it's costly to be fashionable as you might need to dress in expensive clothes or shoes. However, I don't think fashion should be judged by price tags. Anyone can be fashionable, even if he or she stays in the countryside."

Despite living in a rural area, Long said that he enjoys a fulfilling life now in which he is able to do what he likes while also spending time with his family.

When talking about the future, Long said that he plans to continue studying fashion trends and hopes to become an online fashion star with great influence.
