Hainan lets people in with health codes from outside

Recognizing the "green" health codes of 30 other provincial-level areas in China, Hainan province is admitting people from far and wide, officials with the island's big data bureau said.

The island's recognition of health codes from elsewhere means that people from outside can enter the province without delay.

Scanning health codes has become an effective mean of keeping control of the coronavirus pandemic, said Sun Shaoke, deputy director of the bureau.

As of July 8, airports, railway stations and ports across Hainan have given the nod to more than 1.25 million people who have health codes issued by other entities, effectively ensuring the orderly and safe return of migrant workers and promoting the resumption of business and production in various industrial sectors, according to the bureau.

To date, more than 13 million people have received health codes in Hainan, exceeding the number of permanent residents (around 9.44 million).

Health codes have been used as a one-card solution in all sectors in Hainan, covering local residents, tourists and people on business, the bureau official said.
