Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, the first national medical tourism pilot zone approved by the State Council, signed an online cooperation agreement on May 8 with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Edinburgh to promote the "One Health" system in Hainan.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the "One Health" system is an approach to designing and implementing programmes, policies, legislation, and research in which multiple sectors communicate and work together to achieve better public health outcomes.
A "One Health" research center will be jointly launched by the two universities, with an focus on the major health areas and governance systems between the human, animal, and environmental fields and the goal of developing a "One Health" discipline system to meet future public health security challenges.
The "One Health" research center plans to establish a practice and training base on Hainan Island and Chongming Island in Shanghai to promote industry-university-research cooperation and scientific achievement transformation in the "One Health" industry, as well as to promote the "One Health" system in China.
The cooperation between Lecheng and the two universities will mark Lecheng as the test site for the implementation of the "One Health" concept in Hainan. Relying on its own policy and resource advantages, it will fully leverage the two universities' education and research resources to promote the "One Health" system in Hainan, as well as open Hainan's medical industry wider to the world.
