A Dong, mayor of Sanya, urged that thorough preparations should be made for the sixth Asian Beach Games, which is scheduled to be hosted in the tropical city in November, during an inspection tour to the venue construction sites on Feb 25.
While inspecting the Dadonghai area, a popular seaside place in Sanya and one of the venues for the event, the mayor noted that the event is not only the first intercontinental sports event held in Hainan, but also an important step for Sanya to promote the construction of the Hainan Pilot Free Trade Port.
He added the city should make the event a "precious heritage" in the city's history and take it as a chance to enhance the global image of Sanya.
He required that the construction units complete planning and designs according to the schedule of the event, as well as build competition venues with international standards and practical values. The mayor also called on enhanced inter-department cooperation to improve the transportation system in Dadonghai and to promote upgrading of the tourism resort.
