Hainan's tourism economy has been recovering positively, with the province receiving nearly 60 million tourists and achieving a total tourism revenue of 104 billion yuan ($15.49 billion) in 2022, officials announced at the province's recent tourism and culture, radio, television, and sports work conference.

Last year, the province implemented a series of promotional policies to promote the recovery of its tourism economy. It launched 10 thematic marketing campaigns, including a joint effort with UnionPay and six major travel online booking platforms to distribute 53 million yuan worth of travel vouchers nationwide.

To help relieve the difficulties of tourism-related enterprises, the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture has launched a series of initiatives, such as allocating nearly 100 million yuan to help enterprises in the province, as well as arranging for nearly 100 cadres in the tourism and culture system to serve 101 enterprises severely affected by the COVID-19 epidemic that are in urgent need of help.

In terms of deepening the integration of tourism development, Hainan had two national night culture and tourism consumption clusters, two national industrial tourism demonstration bases, and two national rural tourism key towns.

In addition, the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture held a number of industrial investment promotion meetings in Changsha, Quanzhou, and other places that entered around the construction of major projects like the tourism road station around the island and the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park. The world's largest single duty-free shop, Haikou International Duty Free City, also opened in the province last year.
