Ecology has once again become one of the hot topics at this year's two sessions. Over the past few days, members of the 8th Hainan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and deputies of the 7th Hainan Provincial People's Congress have been actively advising on topics such as promoting environmental protection and ecological civilization construction.
Hainan province has been committed to building a national pilot ecological civilization zone and has promoted a number of landmark projects, such as the Tropical Rainforest National Park, the clean energy island, clean energy vehicles, as well as prefabricated buildings.
In terms of innovation in ecological civilization, Li Shijie, a member of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, suggested that relevant government departments should speed up the establishment of a mechanism for the introduction, operation and publication of the Hainan gross ecosystem product (GEP) accounting system results.
To achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, Chen Hong, vice-chairman of the Haikou Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, believes that Hainan needs to build a mechanism that combines the power of the market, businesses, society and the government. Chen also encourages individuals to get involved in the carbon emissions market.
