Hainan continues to grow in popularity as a tourist destination in winter due to its subtropical scenery and the recent optimization of cross-provincial tourism policies.

On Nov 15, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued a notice about the pandemic prevention and control measures affecting the culture and tourism industry, which defined how to further improve cross-provincial tourism management policies.

According to Ctrip, from Nov 16 to 22, the number of cross-provincial tourism bookings with Hainan as the key destination increased by 60 percent from the same period in October. Moreover, online searches about tourism in Hainan jumped 62 percent, the number of hotel bookings in the island province shot up 77 percent, and the number of ticket orders for local scenic spots exploded by 279 percent.

Fang Zexi, an industry analyst at the Ctrip Research Institute, said the optimization of these policies played a crucial role in promoting tourism in Hainan.

Sun Xiangtao, executive deputy secretary general at the Hainan Tourism Association, suggested Hainan should integrate culture, sports and tourism focusing on the needs and habits of consumers at different age levels. Those in the tourism industry should pay more attention to quality service guarantees, he added.

A manager at the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture said, "We will implement various pandemic prevention and control measures, and minimize the impact of the pandemic on the development of the culture and tourism industry."
