Thanks to effective COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures, flights traveling from Shanghai to Hainan have steadily resumed operations.

Hainan has always been a popular tourist destination in summer. According to online travel agency Qunar.com, the number of air tickets to Sanya around the country from June 25 to 26 increased by 93 percent compared with the previous weekend, while the number of air tickets to Haikou increased by 92 percent. Among them, the Shanghai-Sanya ticket volume increased significantly, nearly 1.5 times.

From June 20 to 26, there were 17 flights from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to Sanya Phoenix International Airport, providing 3,946 seats. These flights were mainly operated by Juneyao Airlines and Shanghai Airlines, a subsidiary of China Eastern Airlines

In terms of air ticket prices, from July 1, the lowest price of Shanghai-Sanya air tickets has risen from about 700 yuan ($104.5) to more than 1,000 yuan.

An official of Juneyao Airlines said that since June 25, they have used the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for the Shanghai-Sanya flights to increase passenger capacity.

Recently, Juneyao Airlines, in cooperation with the Sanya tourism promotion bureau, launched a travel product that integrates air tickets, as well as hotel and scenic spot tickets. It has also released the multiple round-trip air ticket package for the summer vacation period.

"Shanghai and its surrounding cities have always been one of the key tourist sources in Sanya. We will provide more and higher-quality resources to satisfy tourists' travel experience needs," said Ye Jialin, director of the Sanya tourism promotion bureau.
