On June 22, Tansuo-1, Dian Ke 1 Hao, Beidiao 996, and Xiangyanghong 18 docked at Nanshan Port of Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City simultaneously, indicating that Nanshan Port has mature scientific research service support capabilities.

Nanshan Port is only 164 kilometers away from deepwater area that has a depth of 1,000 meters. It has built a 10,000-metric-ton berth with a length of 264.3 meters, which can berth at most two 100-meter or three 50-meter scientific research ships simultaneously. It also has a 3,000-ton ro-ro terminal with a length of 150 meters, which can berth at most one 100-meter or two 50-meter scientific research ships at the same time.

Since 2020, 255 scientific research ships have docked at Nanshan Port, involving 40 scientific research units, such as the Institute of Deep Sea of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Institute of Acoustics of the CAS, and the State Oceanic Administration. These scientific research vessels have carried out a number of research tasks in the South China Sea, such as surveying of the water body, ocean state tests of the South China Sea, sea trial tests of deep-sea equipment, and surveying the distribution of fishery resources in the South China Sea.

Building Nanshan Port into a scientific research homeport can improve South China Sea resource development and the support capability of the surrounding marine deep-diving scientific research. It is also of great significance for exploring key technologies in the deep-sea field and building China into a strong maritime nation.
