A team from the Sanya Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering took part in the sea trial mission of China's 4,500-meter manned submersible "Deep Sea Warrior" and the manned deep dive "Struggler". The "Struggler" set a new record with a manned deep dive of 10,909 meters, showcasing the leap-forward development of China's manned deep diving.

"Faced with the opportunities and challenges of the new era, I think it is necessary to face the frontiers in deep-sea science and technology around the world, strengthen basic research, carry out original technological breakthroughs, accelerate the localization of marine equipment manufacturing, and promote the development of deep-sea high-tech equipment and industries," Zhou said.

Zhou also suggested that innovation and reform should be carried out by breaking the boundaries of systems, departments and disciplines, and using a new scientific research system.
