The School of Chemical Engineering and Technology of Hainan University organized teachers and students to make sanitizer to contribute to the fight against COVID-19 by utilizing their professional knowledge to ensure campus safety.
The students of the school used 1L mother liquor containing 5g Glutaraldehyde and 5g Decamethonium Bromide, diluted at a ratio of 1:500-1000, and prepared more than 500 bottles of sanitizer that were non-corrosive, odorless, harmless, as well as highly effective.
Being a compound high-efficiency sanitizer, it is convenient to use, cost-effective, safe, and environmentally friendly, while also boasting more efficient and durable disinfection and sterilization effects.
Its main active ingredient, glutaraldehyde, is an acid disinfectant, which can kill bacterial propagules, spores, fungi, and viruses.
The other active ingredient of the sanitizer is Decamethonium Bromide, which is a double long-chain cationic surfactant. Its quaternary ammonium cations can actively attract negatively charged bacteria and viruses, as well as cover their surfaces, hindering bacterial metabolism and leading to changes in membrane permeability. After the combination of the two components, it is easier to enter the interior of bacteria and viruses, destroy protein and enzyme activities, as well as achieve fast and efficient disinfection.
After the sanitizer was configured, the students distributed it to the school's living accommodations and offices, which benefits teachers and students by helping create a safe learning and living environment.
