Hainan offshore duty-free sales exceed $2b this year

The sales of Hainan's offshore duty-free shops have reached about 15 billion yuan ($2.35 billion) this year, showing a significant increase, according to the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce on March 27.

In the first two months of this year, the total sales of the 10 offshore duty-free shops in Hainan reached 12.87 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 33 percent. Sales of duty-free goods were 11.95 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 38 percent. The number of consumers buying duty-free items was 2.13 million, up 36 percent compared with the same period of last year, and the total number of duty-free purchases reached 12.62 million, increasing 53 percent year-on-year.

Since 2022, the province's 10 offshore duty-free shops have held various shopping promotion activities. World-famous brands have launched new products and opened new shops in Hainan, marketing top new products, themed activities, as well as special promotions.

In order to better meet people's demand of Hainan's offshore duty-free goods and promote the return of overseas consumption, the province promotes its brands, varieties, and prices of duty-free goods to keep pace with the world. Hainan's offshore duty-free shopping is renowned for its top brands, optimized shopping environment, diverse marketing methods, as well as strict COVID-19 prevention and control measures.
