As the only province in China to pilot digital RMB, Hainan has created 10,461,400 individual wallets and 647,500 corporate wallets. The province also launched 345,600 application scenarios for digital RMB, with 116,800 merchant stores supporting digital RMB.
One year since the launch of the digital RMB pilot work in Hainan, the Haikou central sub-branch of the People's Bank of China and the Hainan Provincial Local Financial Supervision and Administration Bureau, along with relevant departments in the provincial government, have made efforts to promote digital RMB pilot work.
In addition, Hainan is actively exploring the application scenarios of digital RMB with the characteristics of the Hainan Free Trade Port. The country's first digital RMB contract and tax payment business was launched in Hainan. The province also carried out consumption promotion activities in Haikou and Sanya, issuing digital RMB consumption discounts totaling 20 million yuan ($3.2 million).
