Hainan province received 81 million domestic and foreign tourists in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 25.5 percent, generating 138.43 billion yuan ($21.77 billion) in tourism revenue, a year-on-year increase of 58.6 percent, according to the Hainan Provincial Department of Culture, Radio, Film, Television, Publications and Sports.

In 2021, the department carried out eight investment promotion events in Beijing, Xi'an, Haikou, Chengdu, Shanghai, and other places, which attracted 32 tourism, cultural, and sports industry projects, with more than 40 tourism, cultural, and sports enterprises newly registered in the province.

Hainan province's all-for-one tourism development has achieved remarkable results last year. Qionghai, Wanning, Ding'an county, Haikou's Xiuying district, and Sanya's Haitang district were designated provincial-level all-for-one tourism demonstration areas.

Sanya Haichang Fantasy Town has been rated as a national-level nighttime culture and tourism consumption cluster. Haikou Qilou Old Street was rated as a national tourism and leisure block. Five villages, including Liuke village in Qionghai's Boao town, were included in the third batch of national key villages for rural tourism, while three towns, including Boao town, were included in the first batch of national key towns for rural tourism.

In addition, the province has created two provincial-level tourist resorts, 18 A-level tourist attractions, and 38 rural tourist spots. Wuzhishan, Wenchang, and Tunchang county created their first A-level tourist attractions successfully in 2021.
