China's deep-sea manned submersible Fendouzhe (Striver), onboard the scientific research ship Tansuo-1, returned to the port in the city of Sanya, south China's Hainan province on Friday, after completing its current phase of ocean expedition in the Mariana Trench.

The scientific research ship Tansuo-1 set sail on Aug 11 from Sanya for the first leg of its 21st voyage to the Western Pacific. During its 59-day expedition, the submersible Fendouzhe completed 28 dives, seven of which exceeded a depth of 10,000 meters.

The submersible also collected samples of ocean rocks, marine organisms and seabed sediments.
