The Haikou Airport Comprehensive Bonded Zone was recently approved by the State Council, China's cabinet, making it the third special customs supervision zone in Hainan after the Yangpu Bonded Port Area and the Haikou Comprehensive Bonded Area, Hainan Daily reported on May 18.

Lying in the Haikou Airport Economic Zone, Jiangdong New District, the new bonded area will expand into a planned area of 0.44 square kilometers adjacent to Haikou Meilan International Airport. It will focus on the aviation industry, the development of aircraft maintenance, the bonded aviation material logistics industry, the development of aviation leasing, and aviation training. The zone will also move into bonded processing and cross-border e-commerce businesses in the future.

At present, the area is accelerating the construction of its infrastructure and supervision facilities in accordance with relevant requirements, and pressing ahead with two key projects - the one-stop aircraft maintenance base and an aero engine maintenance base.

According to Haikou Customs officials, customs will support and guide the high-standard construction of infrastructure and supervision facilities in the bonded area in the future, carry out project acceptance and make preparations for operation in accordance with the deployment of the General Administration of Customs.
