The China International Consumer Products Expo, also known as the Hainan Expo, will be staged on May 7-10  in the city of Haikou – capital of China's southernmost Hainan province – and the island is building an 810-square-meter pavilion to showcase its finest local products.

The Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, the venue for the upcoming event, has taken on a fresh, new look after a revamp and upgrade and construction teams began setting up the Hainan Pavilion on April 24.

Located in Exhibition Hall 8, the Hainan Pavilion is the first pavilion to be set up and natural materials, biodegradable materials and recycled materials are being used – to honor the concept of a green expo, according to the construction teams.

The main exhibits set to go on show at Hainan Pavilion are expected to draw the crowds. They will include high-end cultural and creative products such as agarwood, Hainan Huanghuali wood, Li brocade, high-end agricultural products, as well as high-tech products made by Hainan firms.

Multimedia technologies will be used to display other high-end specialty products, release new products and promote local enterprises.

Officials from the expo's service teams said workers are scheduled to enter the venue to put up more pavilions from April 27.

To ensure smooth and convenient services at the show, Haikou methodically put together a list of 180 specific tasks and to date 80 percent of them have been completed, according to Chen Rensheng, deputy director of the Haikou bureau of commerce.

The expo is seen providing an opportunity for the display and sale of global consumer goods in the Chinese market. The aim is also to boost the sales of both participating domestic and foreign companies around the world.
