Telecommunication company China Mobile is installing a submarine cable to enhance interconnection between Hainan, Hong Kong and Zhuhai in Guangdong province and to make Hainan a major service guarantee zone for national strategies.

The Hainan side of the cable landed in Wenchang city on March 19. It will be the first of its kind in South China's Hainan and is an important part of the communication infrastructure for the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

According to China Mobile's plan, infrastructure such as an international submarine cable docking station, an international telecommunication business department, and a free trade port data center will be constructed simultaneously to develop Hainan into a leading international submarine cable hub in the Asia-Pacific. The projects will help Chinese enterprises "go global" to countries along the Belt and Road, as well as meet the development needs of international data communications in countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road.

China Mobile Hainan Company will seize the opportunities created by Hainan FTP's construction, give full play to its advantages in information technology, accelerate the construction of new infrastructure and information projects such as 5G networks and data centers, and promote the development of cross-border data flow and data trade. It will also help to form an industry cluster in Hainan, making the island province a leading global information exchange center in the Asia-Pacific region.
