Hainan's air quality achieves new high

ehainan.gov.cn | Updated: 2021-02-10

Hainan province had excellent or good air quality on 99.5 percent of days in 2020 - a historical new high.

The concentration of particulate matter less than 2.5 microns in diameter (PM2.5) in Hainan in 2020 was 13 micrograms per cubic meter, meeting the national first-level standard, while Wuzhishan became the first city in the province to have its PM2.5 density in single digits.

A total of 30 out of 33 key institutional targets, part of the implementation plan for building Hainan into a national ecological civilization pilot zone, have been achieved.

Nine innovative reform measures - including banning plastic products and treating rural sewage - have been promoted countrywide.

Hainan's ecological environment protection maintained a great momentum in 2020. For example, the quality compliance rate of centralized drinking water sources in cities or towns reached 100 percent, and the water quality compliance rate of rivers and lakes in cities or towns amounted to 91.3 percent.
