On Dec 26, a special forum was hosted during the 5th Sanya International Cultural Industry Fair 2020 – held in the city of Sanya in China's southernmost Hainan province - according to Hainan Daily.

The forum highlighted the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port (Hainan FTP) and cultural industry development with industry leaders and diplomats from the Belt and Road countries gathering to share their insights.

The event was attended by Tan Ping, vice mayor of Sanya and other distinguished guests.

As an important hub city of the Belt and Road Initiative, Sanya offers broad space for international cultural exchanges, especially in the context of the construction of the Hainan FTP, according to Tan.

She said that there are many possibilities to explore while using cultural exchanges as the vehicle to increase mutual trust – as well as to promote talent, capital, trade and investment flows - and achieve win-win cooperation.

At the forum, Grigor Porozhanov, Bulgaria's ambassador to China, said the Hainan FTP is likely to become a solid foundation for the recovery of international trade after the global pandemic and it will play an important role to revive international cooperation.

Peleg Lewi, the consul general of Israel in Guangzhou, said his country had brought in a number of modern photographic works to showcase its contemporary art scene and to further cooperation in innovative industries.

He added that Eilat, an important tourism city in Israel, has begun to boost communications with Sanya and will strengthen mutual exchanges, with the two expected to become sister cities in the future.

Kharlap Tatyana, charge d'affaires of the Republic of Belarus in China, said the fair provided a wide range of opportunities for Belarusian and Hainan companies. This is the third time that the Belarusian delegation has participated in the Sanya fair and the envoy hoped it would become a tradition in the future.

The cultural fair kicked off on Dec 25 in the tropical city of Sanya, bringing together cultural enterprises from 40 countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as from 20 domestic provinces and cities, to showcase their cultural and tourism products.
