The China (Hainan)-ASEAN Think Tank Forum was first held in 2017. It aims to promote in-depth exchanges and discussions between participants from home and abroad on issues related to the construction of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, the international cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as Hainan's integration into the Belt and Road construction.

The forum also provides intellectual support for the Hainan FTP construction, as well as functions as a platform for domestic and foreign social science experts to share insights on boosting cooperation and exchanges between Hainan and ASEAN.
