Farmers from 19 cities and counties across Hainan province gathered on Sept 22 at a square in Yinggehai town, Ledong Li autonomous county to mark the 2020 Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival.

This year's harvest has been hard-won given that the country's agricultural production was challenged by the COVID-19 outbreak. The festival features an array of produce and local delicacies, such as Dapo peppers from Haikou, Wenchang jackfruit, Danzhou duck eggs, and Ledong oranges, on sale.

Several booths hosted live streams to invite participants who couldn't make it to the festival to make purchases online.

Zhou Hualong, an internet celebrity, did a live stream at the Wenchang pavilion.

"This morning, more than 1,000 people watched my live stream, and 60 deals were inked. The most popular product was the jackfruit from Wenchang's Donglu town," said Zhou.

As a college student returning to his hometown of Wenchang, Zhou has become a well-known local new farmer. He said that this year, Donglu town had a bumper harvest of jackfruit.

"During the COVID-19 epidemic, we did live streaming to help villagers find a market. In the future, our social media influencers will continue to help them sell products and raise their income," Zhou added.

During the festival, farmer representatives from all cities and counties across the province also participated in fun activities like relay races and other sports events.
