Senior officials from the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) region have gathered in Sanya, the southernmost city in Hainan province, for the 2020 PPRD Regional Cooperation Executive Chief Joint Conference, held in the tropical city from Sep 17 to 18.

The special joint meeting was launched in 2004 by the eight Chinese provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou, and Yunnan, as well as Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Hong Kong, and Macao. It is a key platform to promote regional cooperation and communication.

As part of the PPRD region, Hainan has not only been an active player, but also a beneficiary of the meeting. Since the inception of the meeting, the island province, based on its geographic advantages and resources, has promoted in-depth cooperation with other provinces and regions and achieved remarkable results.

It has engaged itself in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, achieved great progress in infrastructure interconnectivity, deepened industrial cooperation, as well as strived to form a law-based, international, and convenient business environment. The province has explored collaboration with other places in areas like ecological civilization, as well as launched a series of institutional innovation cases.
