Sanya held a special symposium on the innovative development of the yacht industry on Aug 21, with participants discussing Hainan's yacht industry development model, functions, and new marine tourism businesses.

According to information released at the symposium, a series of support and reform measures have been implemented at the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) in recent years to boost the yacht industry and the tourism market. The yacht industry has become an important driving force for Hainan to promote its tourism industry.

At the symposium, many experts and business representatives from CCS Shanghai Rules and Research Institute, the Transport Planning and Research Institute and the China Waterborne Transport Research Institute from Ministry of Transportation, as well as the Sanya Central Business District Administration shared their insights related to opportunities and development strategies of the marine industry, cruise ship industry, and yacht industry.

As of August this year, Hainan has built and operated 14 yacht terminals and 2,312 berths, with more than 150 enterprises related to the yacht industry chain opening businesses in the province with 747 registered yachts.

With its unique geographical location and environmental advantages, Sanya has seen substantial yacht industry development in recent years. As more preferential policies are introduced in the Hainan FTP, Sanya's yacht industry has been further developed and the market size has ranked among the top three in China.

In addition, the overall plan for construction of the Hainan FTP proposed that the city of Sanya accelerate the development of an international cruise home port through the construction of a cruise tourist pilot zone, international cruise registration attraction, and the establishment of a yacht industry innovation pilot zone.
