Chengmai eyes modern logistics cluster

Thousands of commodities from outside Hainan province have been unloaded and then sent to households across the island through the Chengmai Jinma Modern Logistics Center.

Currently, the center's daily shipment volume exceeds 50,000 pieces. After the completion of the smart storage center, the daily order for goods will reach 250,000, which can meet the development needs of JD.com in Hainan in the next three to five years, according to Zou Aiming, the person in charge of the Hainan Operation Center for e-commerce giant JD.com.

In 2018, JD.com decided to construct its regional headquarters in the Jinma Modern Logistics Center, hoping to enlarge its e-commerce market in Hainan.

The JD.com Chengmai project covers an area of 358 mu (23.9 hectares), and it includes large-scale business centers, smart sorting centers, unmanned smart storage centers, as well as order processing centers. After its completion, it will drive local logistics companies in Hainan to take a comprehensive industrial road that integrates systemization, informatization, and modern warehousing, helping Jinma Modern Logistics Center and Hainan's modern logistics industry to further upgrade. At the end of this year, the first phase of the project will be completed.

The Jinma Modern Logistics Center firmly grasps the development opportunities brought by the construction of the Hainan Pilot Free Trade Port and has been striving to attract investment from the world's top 500 enterprises, as well as China's top 500 enterprises and the top five companies in the industry.

The center has formed a certain scale of industrial clusters, which are not only conducive to resource sharing, improving the overall competitiveness of the industry, and strengthening effective cooperation between enterprises, but also aid the building of regional brands, said Zou, who claimed that the unmanned smart warehouse and the settlement center were decided to settle in the Jinma Modern Logistics Center after taking into account its advantages. 

Its considerate services for enterprises also make it a popular venue for enterprises to settle in. During the COVID-19 epidemic, the center set up an anti-epidemic working group and made assistance plan for companies like JD.com to transport labor forces and provide isolation sites for people from other provinces to quarantine in.

Wang Yingtao, project leader of Suning Hainan E-commerce Operation Center, which is located in Jinma Modern Logistics Center, has a similar optimism about Jinma Modern Logistics Center. "It only took a month or so for the project to start construction after signing the contract," he said.

We settled in Chengmai because of its obvious location advantages and convenient transportation. It is a 'golden zone' for the development of multimodal transport logistics and the local government has been very helpful in solving various problems for us, he added.
