Hainan's foreign trade surpasses 183.8 billion yuan over past two years

The total value of Hainan's foreign trade stood at 183.86 billion yuan ($25.96 billion) between April 2018 and March this year, an increase of 31.8 percent over the 2016-2018 period, according to statistics released at a foreign trade press conference held in Hainan on April 24.

To be specific, the total export amount hit 68.01 billion yuan, an increase of 51.3 percent compared with the 2016-2018 period and 39 percentage points higher than the national average, while imports reached 115.85 billion yuan, an increase of 22.5 percent and 4.2 percentage points higher than the national average.

As the main driving force of Hainan's foreign trade, Yangpu Economic Development Zone further highlighted its leading position. The total value of the zone's foreign trade in the first quarter was 11.79 billion yuan, an increase of 10.2 percent over the same period last year, accounting for 57.8 percent of Hainan's total.
