Hainan updates health QR code system to be accessible for overseas users

ehainan.gov.cn | Updated: 2020-03-03

Hainan added a new function to its previously launched health QR code system on March 2, enabling people from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as overseas countries to register and apply on it.

Foreigners, as well as Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan residents in Hainan can get a health code through Alipay after going through procedures like real-name verification, as well as contact information and personal health condition submission.

To strengthen its prevention and control efforts of the novel coronavirus outbreak, the South China island province established a special health QR code system on Feb 18.

The QR code system is based on the self-declared data of citizens or migrant worker, and integrates with the existing epidemic prevention information in China to generate a personal QR code for each applicant.

A user's health status is distinguished with the three colors of red, yellow, and green. The green code holders can pass at check stations, while those who display the red or yellow codes need to be isolated for quarantine as required.
