Cardiac pacemakers that are available and have demonstrated successful clinical application overseas will be able to be imported through Haikou Customs to Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, even though these kind of products have yet to been registered in China.

On Feb 11, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) designated Haikou Customs as an inspection agency for imported cardiac pacemakers. This means that domestic unlisted imported cardiac pacemakers that are clinically needed can enter through Haikou Customs and be imported to Lecheng to benefit more patients.

According to the announcement by GACC, Haikou Customs will start to offer inspection services on March 1, and enterprises can then declare them to the customs with the approval documents and relevant trade documents.

Previously, imported pacemakers to Lecheng could only pass customs inspections in Beijing and Shanghai, which takes a longer time.

A pacemaker is a small device placed under the skin in the chest to help the heart beat more regularly when patients suffer from irregular heartbeat like arrhythmia.
