Ten laboratories in Hainan are capable of conducting tests of novel coronavirus nucleic acid, with the ability of completing all tests of suspected cases in the province within only two days, according to officials from the Hainan Provincial Health Commission at a press conference on Feb 10.

After the samples are delivered to the laboratories, it takes five to six hours before the test results are released.

The ability to "clear all tests" is of great importance to speed up the detection of suspected cases, thus shortening the diagnosis time for rescue and treatment efforts, as well as reducing the rate of critical illness .

Specific plans have been formulated for the testing of viral nucleic acids in all suspected cases reported as of 10:00 pm on Feb 9, according to officials at the conference, with great efforts being made to complete testing as soon as possible.

The 10 laboratories are capable of carrying out 1,200 tests per day. In addition, the island province also boasts 14 back-up laboratories at local medical institutions, universities, and third-party testing institutions with a maximum daily testing volume of about 1,300.
