Despite the novel coronavirus outbreak, more than 1,500 workers are wearing masks to continue working on the construction site of the Sanya International Sports Industrial Park project, one of the key projects for the sixth Asian Beach Games, which will be held in Sanya from Nov 28 to Dec 6.

The park, which will serve as the venue for the closing ceremony of the games, covers a construction area of 86,000 square meters and offers 45,000 seats for spectators. Construction began on Sept 18 last year and the main building was capped on Jan 22 this year.

The construction schedule of the project is tight, and in order to ensure readiness for the sixth Asian Beach Games, more than 3,000 workers have been dispatched on two projects in Sanya during the Spring Festival, according to Zhang Fangyuan, deputy head of Beijing Urban Construction Sixth Group Sanya Headquarters.

Zhang noted that the headquarters attached great importance on the prevention of the novel coronavirus, setting up a special novel coronavirus prevention and control team, closing the construction site, as well as purchasing materials like masks, thermometers, and disinfectants for workers.

Due to strict measures on epidemic prevention and control measures at the construction site, no abnormal conditions have occurred as of now, said Zhang.

He added that makeshift houses have been under construction at the park, which will be used as quarantine rooms for workers who are returning from their hometowns for the Spring Festival. "After the epidemic is contained, more professional workers and technicians will be dispatched to ensure the park is completed on time and ready for the 6th Asian Beach Games in November," Zhang added.
