Two athletes from Hainan, Bi Kun and Gao Pan, have gained their entries to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the men's windsurfing RS: X-level event and the women's taekwondo event respectively.
Bi, 26, was selected in the Chinese sports delegation for the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and in the men's windsurfing RS: X competition in Jakarta, Bi helped the Chinese team secure the championship for the third year.
In 2019, as a member of the sailing and windsurfing national team, Bi has been training hard to gain qualifications for the Tokyo Olympic Games. In the 2019 Sailing World Cup in Japan, the Hainan youth represented the national team and won the men's windsurfing RS: X championship, winning entry to the Tokyo Olympics in advance for China.
Gao, a Hainan athlete in the women's taekwondo +67 kg event, also qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after winning the team championship in the mixed doubles event during the 2019 World Taekwondo World Cup competition in Wuxi. A promising taekwondo athlete in China, Gao previously won a bronze medal in the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.
