The World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series Men and Women's Corona Open China kicked off on Jan 6, with 188 surfers from around the world gathering at the dreamy Riyue Bay in Wanning in a fierce one-week battle to win entry into the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
A qualifying event for the Tokyo Olympics shortboard surfing event, the Corona Open China will feature a star-studded lineup of 110 male and 78 female world top surfers from 30 countries and regions throughout the week.
As the host country, China has 32 wild card entries, including 16 male athletes and 16 female athletes, so the contest is hitting a record high in terms of the number of Chinese attendees, compared with all previous Wanning surfing events.
