A total of 800 people, 23 ships of various types, two ambulances, and a helicopter took part in a roll-on-roll-off (ro-ro) ship drill on Dec 24 in the sea near Haikou Xiuying Port.

This was by far the highest-level, largest, and most representative comprehensive emergency drill held in the Qiongzhou Strait.

The Qiongzhou Strait is an important channel connecting Hainan to Guangdong. Ro-ro ships transport about 15 million passengers and 3 million vehicles each year, as well as cover 90 percent of the shipping demand for living goods in Hainan province.
