With a data transfer speed at least 10 times faster than 4G and a time lag of just one-tenth of a second, 5G technology is expected to boost medical resources sharing in Sanya, as the city launched its first 5G-assisted smart hospital project in Hainan on Dec 19.
The project was jointly initiated by the People's Hospital of Sanya and the Hainan branch of China Mobile Communications Group.
The 5G smart hospital project started on Aug 8 this year, and the 5G telemedicine equipment and system have currently been installed at the People's Hospital of Sanya, Sanya Yucai Hospital, and Yacheng Health Center. The 5G network construction in these hospitals have also been finished and related equipment in the hospitals have been interconnected.
The 5G project includes remote ultrasonic testing, remote consultations, emergency rescue, remote headquarters, and a consultation center.
The 5G emergency rescue project is part of the medical services prepared for the 2020 Asian Beach Games, which will be hosted in Sanya in November of next year.
