China's island province Hainan sought to promote project cooperation with the Kansai region in Japan at the 23rd Inter-Islands Tourism Policy Forum, which kicked off in Okinawa.
From Nov 5 to 9, a delegation led by Wang Sheng, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan Province, took part in the forum, which was attended by about 50 guests from the island regions of Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka.

Its participation marked a key move to further implement the results from last year's visit to Japan by provincial leaders with Japanese government officials. The visit aimed to attract more Japanese political, business, and academic resources to participate in the Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone and Hainan Pilot Free Trade Port.
At the opening ceremony, Wang delivered a keynote speech centering on working together to create a multilateral platform for island tourism cooperation with more sustainability and international influence.
He noted that the Chinese government supports Hainan's participation in the forum and praised the forum as a multilateral platform for discussing island tourism cooperation at the local level. Hainan is willing to contribute to the sustainable and healthy development of the forum in the future, Wang added.
Japan's Hyogo Prefecture is the first place that Hainan forged sister region relationships with after it became a province. The island province in South China will celebrate the 30th anniversary of that relationship next year, and Wang met with the Mizuguchi Norihisa, head of the International Affairs Bureau of Hyogo, to discuss celebrations for the anniversary.

Wang also had a discussion with Li Xian, Consul General of China in Osaka, to talk about the integration of the resources of the embassy and consulate to promote match-makings between the economic and trade circles of Hainan and the Kansai region.
During their visit to Okinawa, the delegation members also conducted research on Okinawa Naha Airport, Naha Port, Naha Port International Logistics Industry Concentration Area, and Japan Daiwa Transportation Logistics to learn more about the local government's construction, investment promotion, and operation in the park.
