The 2019 Cross-Straits (Hainan) Homestay Conference kicked off in Haikou, capital city of South China's Hainan province on Oct 30, with over 400 experts and entrepreneurs from Hainan and Taiwan sharing ideas on boosting cooperation between the two places in the rural tourism and homestay industries.

The three-day conference seeks to introduce Taiwan's development experience in the bed and breakfasts (B&B) and modern agriculture industries to Hainan. The conference includes high-end dialogues on rural leisure tourism, industrial investment inspections, and B&B tourism report meetings.

By 2019, Hainan plans to build 80 new rural homestay hostels, and by 2021, the tropical province plans to be home to 480 characteristic homestays.

At the conference, experts and scholars from Taiwan shared their insights on promoting the Hainan B&B industry.

In recent years, a growing number of Taiwan-funded enterprises are settling on Hainan Island. In the first nine months of this year, the total registered funds of Hainan's newly established Taiwan enterprises hit $1 billion.

Earlier last year, Hainan issued 30 measures to benefit Taiwan residents and entrepreneurs, which made it easier for them to invest, work, study, and live in Hainan.
