Hainan, China's largest pilot free trade zone and free trade port, showcased its distinctive culture and tourism attractions during a parade on Oct 1 in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
During the parade, a white float in the shape of a cruise liner featured designs inspired by several iconic places and things in Hainan, including the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center, the brocade of the Li ethnic group, the Hainan high-speed ring railway, and sailboats.
The three Miss Worlds on board the float were meant to represent the island province's openness and inclusiveness, while the Red Detachment of Women represents the idea that Hainan people should remain true to their original aspirations and keep their mission firmly in mind. Locals of the Li minority dressed in traditional costumes and holding tropical fruit were also a highlight of the float.
The float was put on a display at Beijing Olympic Park after the parade and it will make a return in the middle of October in Haikou.
