The island province of Hainan kicked off a special art exhibition on Sept 10 to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People' s Republic of China, as well as prepare for the upcoming 13th National Exhibition of Fine Arts.

The opening ceremony for the exhibition was held at Hainan Museum.

More than 180 exhibits, including works selected for the 13th National Art Exhibition and outstanding works solicited for the exhibition, were put on display. The works cover a variety of art mediums, such as Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, water color painting, and sculpture. Possessing distinctive themes and diverse styles, the works aesthetically presented the artistic characteristics of current Hainan artists.

At the academic seminar held after the opening ceremony of the exhibition, three generations of artists from the Hainan art world gathered together to review, sort out, and summarize the achievements and shortcomings of Hainan's art in the past 70 years.

Held at Hainan Museum and Hainan Library, the exhibition runs until Sept 16.
