The Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Haikou, the first foreign consulate general that has been established in Hainan province since the founding of the People's Republic of China, will officially open in October.
On Sept 4, Shen Xiaoming, governor of Hainan met with Ung Vantha, consul general of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Haikou. The governor extended his congratulations on the establishment of the consulate general and welcomed Ung to Haikou.
Shen said that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC and the 31st anniversary of the establishment of the Hainan Special Economic Zone. The consulate general is of great significance to the promotion of the Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone and the construction of Hainan Pilot Free Trade Port, as well as the deepening of bilateral cooperation between the province and Cambodia.
The governor also expressed hope that Cambodia and Hainan will further strengthen economic and trade ties, promote cultural exchanges, as well as expand cooperation between the two places in tropical agriculture and tourism.
Ung extended his gratitude to Hainan for its support and help in the establishment of the royal Consulate General of Cambodia in Haikou. He said that the consulate will strive to boost China-Cambodia ties through more exchanges and cooperation projects in trade and cultural areas between Hainan and Cambodia.
