The city of Haikou hosted the 2019 Blue Economy Congress and the Hainan "Belt and Road" Fisheries Cooperation Promotion Conference on Aug 29. During the congress, over 300 attendees from across China were treated to a tilapia banquet.
A variety of different flavored tilapia fish were served, greatly increasing the image of the tasty Hainan fish.

At present, Hainan tilapia farming has become an island-wide industry. The fish has been sold to more than 50 countries and regions around the world. It has obtained certifications from the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), the British Retail Consortium Certification (BRC), the US Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification, the European Global Good Agricultural Practices (GLOBALGAP) certification, and certifications from some countries in the Middle East.
