The 2019 Blue Economy Congress got underway in Haikou on Aug 29, with experts and scholars gathering to share insights on the upgrading of the marine industry and modern fishery, promoting green development of the blue economy and boosting cooperation in the blue economy.
The opening ceremony was presided by Wu Dahai, deputy secretary general of Haikou municipal government, and other officials, including Wen Bin, Haikou Vice Mayor, Jiang Qingchun, deputy head of the Shandong Ocean Bureau, and Cui Lifeng, head of the National Fisheries Technology Extension Center, attended the ceremony and addressed the audience.
In 2017, Haikou became a national model city for innovative development of the marine economy. In the future, it will make full use of Hainan's policy advantages, enhance investment promotion efforts, as well as strive to attract domestic and foreign scientific research institutions and the marine headquarters economy to settle in it, according to the Haikou vice mayor.
Wen added that Haikou will also carry out in-depth research on marine fisheries and marine equipment, as well as actively develop marine transportation, tourism, fisheries, and other new industries to continuously boost marine resources development and utilization.
A total of nine main activities will be held during the three-day event, including the Blue Economy Congress Main Forum, the Hainan "Belt and Road" Fisheries Cooperation Promotion Conference, the 5G Technology Innovation Application Development Forum in Smart Ocean Field, as well as the Digital and Port and Shipping Industry Restructuring and Green Port Construction Summit Forum.
