Haikou, capital city of South China's Hainan province, held the 2nd International Conference on Island Economies on Aug 21, with over 100 guests, experts, and scholars from home and abroad invited to share insights on trends of island tourism.
Centering on "Island Tourism", the two-day conference was hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan Province, the Institute of Island Studies at the University of Prince Edward Island, and the UNESCO Commission of Island Studies and Sustainability.
The conference will focus on five topics, including how island residents benefit from island tourism development, government initiatives and support for island tourism, market promotion and branding of islands, sustainable development of international island tourism, as well as the future of island tourism industry.
It will provide ideas and feasible plans for Hainan's promotion of island tourism, its construction of an international tourism consumption center, as well as tourism cooperation between the province and other island countries and regions.
The 2nd International Conference on Island Economies was a key academic platform for the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Islands Economic Cooperation Forum. The forum was launched by the Hainan Provincial Government, sponsored by the China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund, and is one of the three main theme activities of Boao Forum for Asia.
