HNA Airport Group and China Mobile Hainan Branch signed a cooperation agreement on Aug 20 to launch the "5G Future Airport" project and the 5G demonstration project of the airport economic industry in Jiangdong New District.
This strategic cooperation will make full use of the advantages of China Mobile's Hainan Branch in the field of digital transformation. Haikou Meilan International Airport, Sanya Phoenix International Airport, and Qionghai Boao International Airport, which are operated and managed by HNA Airport Group, are the first group of model airports.
At 10:00 in the morning, a passenger surnamed Zhang from Haikou Meilan International Airport made his first call based on 5G technology and tested the internet speed. According to his on-the-spot testing, the download speed of the 5G network at the airport exceeded 1 gigabytes per second and the upload speed exceeded 100 megabytes per second. At present, the China Mobile Hainan Branch has installed 5G facilities in the terminal halls and Haikou Aviation Tourism City.
Compared to 4G, the 5G network can provide larger bandwidth, lower delay, and more links. Combining 5G technology with cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, and VR can not only realize smart services and smart operations, but also can promote the construction of smart airports, as well as cutting-edge technology application in the civil aviation field, said Yun Qing, a division general manager from China Mobile Hainan Branch.
In the future, the mobile operator will build more than 50 5G base stations in the three model cooperation airports, which are expected to become a "5G network demonstration zone".
