Sanya, a popular tourism city in South China's Hainan province, made a further step to attract tourists from Taiwan by setting up a promotion center in Kaohsiung on Aug 19.

Similar promotion centers will also be set up in Taichung and Taipei on Aug 21 and 22. The three centers will strengthen efforts in tourism promotion and are expected to attract more Taiwan residents to come and visit Hainan Island.

Taiwan is China's largest island with a population of about 24 million. It is currently the second largest inbound tourist source for Sanya. In 2018, Sanya hosted a total of 84,000 tourists from Taiwan, a year-on-year increase of 27 percent. As of June this year, Sanya received a total of 47,000 Taiwan tourists, up 36.9 percent year on year.

To date, there are four routes between Taiwan and Hainan operated by four airlines, offering 16 round-trip flights a week, including Haikou Meilan Airport, which operates two Taiwan routes.

The promotion centers are conducive to jointly promoting the quality of cross-straits tourism services, creating a safer, more assured, and more comfortable travel experience for visitors, designing tourism products that are more desirable for Taiwan tourists, as well as exploring precise advertising and marketing methods.
