The city of Sanya in South China's Hainan province kicked off its first tent festival on Aug 10, with numerous colorful tents set up amid seas of roses and mountain trees in Yalong Bay International Rose Valley.

In addition to outdoor camping, the event also included a variety of creative activities, with five major theme areas - the stage area, the zone for innovative cultural products, the food area, the camping area, and the "red culture" exhibition area that highlighted revolutionary culture.

As one of the key parts of the 2019 First Sanya Tent Festival, a special hiking event was also launched to encourage more people to protect mangroves and get involved in environmental protection.

"It's quite different from the places that I have been to. Sanya's ecology and climate are really good. It is especially comfortable for camping in the scenic area," said Chen Guoxin, a travel enthusiast.

"There are also many supporting cultural experience activities. I hope that more will be held in the future. I will recommend it to more friends."
