Hainan province in South China began to carry out a special "single window" commodity barcode declaration system on Aug 1 to facilitate the customs declaration process for foreign trade enterprises.

On that day, Haikou Customs guided the Hainan Duty Free Company in filling out and submitting a declaration form through the system.

It marked a key move by the island province, renowned for its institutional innovation in boosting development, to further improve its business environment, speed up customs clearance, as well as standardize import and export declaration.

The system is based on big data technology applied by the customs office in tax collection and management reform. Applying enterprises can realize the automatic storage and smart auxiliary filling of the declaration information through the commodity barcode declaration system.

The commodity barcode refers to the Global Trade Identification Number (GTIN) code, which is a 13-digit number that uniquely identifies retail products.

"This auxiliary function has reduced the workload of customs declaration personnel and improved the accuracy of the declaration, providing a fast and convenient new tool to improve enterprises' informationization level and make their declaration process more smart and standardized, according to a person-in-charge at Hainan Duty Free Company.
