A total of 65 students from 20 universities in Hainan, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan joined a summer camp to tour China's island province of Hainan to further explore its natural scenery, economic development, and culture.
The launch ceremony for the summer camp was held at Hainan University on July 30. The students embarked on their study tour from Haikou and during the following week, they will explore the primeval forest in Yinggeling National Nature Reserve, learn about the culture of the Li ethnic group in Binglanggu of Baoting Li and Miao autonomous county, as well as experience the sci-tech achievements at the Nanfan Scientific and Research Breeding Base in Sanya and the Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
"I grew up in Macao, but my ancestral home is in Hainan. I am looking forward to the rich schedule of this summer camp," said a camper from Macao. She said she hopes to deepen her understanding of Hainan and expressed her interest in the province's talent introduction policies.
Since 2015, Hainan has successfully held five summer camps for youth from the four places who are seeking to learn more about Hainan. It will continue to attract young people from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan to study, start up a business, intern, or work in Hainan, said an official from the United Front Work Department of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee.
In the future, the summer camp will be built into a major platform for youth exchanges between Hainan, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan to enhance their mutual understanding and tighten their bond.
