Tourism industry in Sanya thrives through marketing innovation

The tourism city of Sanya is benefiting from the "Aerial Silk Road"  and its creative international marketing strategy. 

Sanya has been actively promoting itself through the network of air routes connecting it with cities worldwide, implementing the idea of "marketing Sanya to the world wherever the air routes can reach". In addition, it also launched special promotion conferences in countries such as Russia, the UK, and Germany to attract tourists. 

Apart from further developing its existing tourist market, Sanya has also set its sights on the emerging tourist markets that have direct flights to Sanya, as well as potential ones without direct flights to increase its passenger load factor by multiple measures.

Sanya received 716,200 inbound overnight visitors in 2018, with a year-on-year growth of 3.4 percent. In the first half of this year, the number of international tourists arriving in Sanya on overnight trips reached a total of 393,700, up by 22.6 percent year-on-year.

To date, Sanya has been running 40 international and regional air routes. In recent years, the city has opened new routes like the Sanya-London international route, further its internationalization efforts.

The city of Sanya has also explored new ways in international marketing with its tourism advertisements displayed on hundreds of buses on the streets of London, as well as well-designed Hainan Island travel routes and products that have drawn the attention of numerous overseas tourists.

Sanya plans to organize 11 international large-scale tourism exhibitions in 2019 in order to "go global" and enhance its image as a tourist destination, including special promotion conferences during the International Travel Trade Show Berlin and the 2019-2020 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
