The city of Sanya in South China's Hainan province will be home to a special park resort themed around the famous Japanese cartoon character Hello Kitty.

The contract-signing between Fude Holding Group and Sanrio Shanghai International Trading was held on July 29, and the two parties will jointly launch the project.

Sanrio is a Japanese company that designs, licenses, and produces products focusing on the kawaii segment of Japanese popular culture. Its products include stationery, school supplies, gifts, and accessories sold worldwide and at specialty brand retail stores in Japan. Hello Kitty is Sanrio's best-known character. It is a little anthropomorphic cat girl and is one of the most successful marketing brands in the world.

The theme park will be located in Haitang Bay in Sanya and is scheduled to open to the public in 2024, with businesses covering theme parks, theme hotels, entertainment shows, gourmet food, and shopping.

From design and construction to operation, the project will be implemented in accordance with international standards. It will enhance Sanya's attractiveness as an international tourist destination and become a new calling card for the city.

The Sanya Hello Kitty theme park is not only Hainan's first theme park resort with international intellectual property, but also the first comprehensive tourism resort of Hello Kitty with theme hotels, theme parks, and theme businesses.

The resort is expected to host 2 million passengers annually and it will play a key role in building Hainan Free Trade Pilot Zone (Port), as well as promoting the island province as an international tourism consumption center with global influence.
